Tens of Palestinian prisoners in NAKAAB prison were wounded when a special Israeli Army unit attacked prisoners early Monday 22 October 2007. As reported by different news agencies, one prisoner was killed (Mohamed El Ashkar) and more than 200 prisoners were injured; nine out of them were seriously wounded and were transferred to SEROKA hospital for further treatment. The Israeli prison administration used a special highly trained army unit to attack Palestinian prisoners using police dogs, stakes and tear gas against prisoners, more than fifty prisoner’s tents were burnt. As reported by Mr. Farwana, Ministry of Prisoners, more than 2350 Palestinian prisoners are held in NAKAAB prison which is located in Negav desert alone. More than 190 Palestinian prisoners were killed in different Israeli jails, nine out them were killed in NAKAAB prison.

Jesoor organization calls the international community; human rights organizations, International Council for Rehabilitation of Torture victims, UN council for human rights, grass root organizations and all local and regional organizations to condemn such attack and calls for protection of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Attacking prisoners are very serious actions and are considered as clear violations of Geneva conventions and the International legislation of Protecting Prisoners.
