Jesoor organization urges international communities, human rights institutions and organizations, and European communities to intervene to end the siege of Gaza and prevent further humanitarian deterioration of conditions for Palestinians. Living conditions amongst Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip, is devastating--most days there is no electricity and sonic bombs are a daily and nightly occurrence. The most recent escalation has led to the imprisonment of approximately 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. They are living under strict closure, lack basic human necessities like milk for children, clean water, electricity and food. Thousands of children and vulnerable groups are being affected. Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PSBC, 20.07.2006) indicated that 200,000 Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip are living without electricity. Lack of fuel made all medical, health and humanitarian services are almost impossible. Some 200 surgical operations have been cancelled and 250 patients with renal failure are unable to get the medical and dialysis services needed in addition to 112 patients with chronic diseases are in shortage of medication. It is expected that child physical and mental health problems such as nightmares, anxiety symptoms, bed witting are increasing. We urge all those who believe in peace, prosperity, dignity and humanity to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop this escalation and to end the collective punishment of an entire civilian population. We urge you put pressure on Israel to re-open the borders allowing for free movements of medication and allowing hundreds of women, children and patients who were discharged from Egyptian hospitals to return back to their houses, and thus, allowing the Palestinian community to live in peace and preventing further deterioration of Palestinian civil society. We urge you on the name of humanity to send letters to your respective governments to intervene and save hundreds thousands of lives and to help both nations to build the bridges of peace and dignity.
